California college seeks donors to restore classes

Hit by state funding cuts, Las Positas College in California is seeking private donors to “sponsor” classes, reports Community College Times.  The college has created Foundation 55 to raise funds with the hope of restoring core English, speech and math classes that students need to graduate or transfer.

“For just $5,500, supporters can invest in the future of as many as 40 Las Positas College students for an entire semester,” LPC said in a news release.

The college has cut about 150 course sections over the last three years. Enrollment has dropped from 10,000 three years ago to 8,500 today.
