Five student groups from North Carolina community colleges won a share of $25,000 to implement projects they presented at the Mobilize.org Target 2020 Summit at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte last month.
More than 100 students from 25 of the state’s community colleges discussed challenges they face in completing their education. The top recommendations included improvements to academic advising, instituting a national standard for credit transfers, and more active student involvement on and off campus.
Winning projects and schools included:
Peer Pairing, Central Piedmont Community College
The Lounge, Wake Technical Community College
The Goal Program, Durham Technical Community College
Early College High School, Richmond Community College
A Walk for Success, Central Piedmont Community College
Target 2020 Summits will be held in California and Florida in 2011.
