Home-schooled in a big rig by her truck-driver mother, Kerry Anderson excelled at community college and won a full scholarship to Harvard, reports AP via Community College Week. An honors student at Valencia Community College in Florida, the 26-year-old earned a bachelor’s degree in government at Harvard.
At age 12, Anderson hit the road with her mother, Linda, a cross-country truck driver, and her younger brother.
Linda Anderson recalls that Kerry and her brother helped plan travel routes and calculate how long it would take to reach each new destination on their mom’s itinerary, a practical education in math and geography.
A Harvard recruiter offered Anderson a free ride after reading about her education on the road and her success at Valencia. She is considering a career in law or foreign policy.
