Lady Gaga: Casual sex isn’t cool

“Hooking up” — sexual contact without commitment — is losing appeal for some college students, claims CNN.

Various academic studies have cited at least 75 percent of women have engaged in hooking up on campus, and the number is usually higher for men. The activity is most likely precipitated by alcohol, studies show.

The secular Love and Fidelity Network is leading a campaign against casual sex on campus, reports CNN.  And Lady Gaga has declared her celibacy in a Daily Mail interview:

“I remember the cool girls when I was growing up. Everyone started to have sex. But it’s not really cool any more to have sex all the time. It’s cooler to be strong and independent.”

On the other hand, the hook-up culture may be exaggerated. Only one third of college students say they’ve hooked up in a Duke study; more than half say the hook up stopped short of sexual intercourse.
